About Me

BongKitchenKeychain
I am an engineer, dancer & a cook. As a child I was not much fond of cooking. It was too much of a girly thing. My only involvement with kitchen was rolling roti’s when Ma took me there to keep me awake until dinner. My excitement with food was about Sunday special Rice & Mutton Curry or Crab Curry, cutlets & so on at my mom’s parents’ house. My grandmother loved cooking & feeding. She would cook up a feast when we visit her place. Her house was a century old building in north Kolkata with 5-6 kitchens in the 1st floor! The kitchen doors had locks & chain-like attachments to hang the locks. Celebrating food brings the picture of the key-chain-lock of her kitchen. When I left home, cooking started with recipes from my mom/sister/aunts, but the real inspiration to cook came from my foodie husband who loves to cook too. The fact became more real that I am a Bengali & we love food, talk food, & our festivals are about food! And the liking for traditional Bengali food & other cuisines grew. Reading about food & watching food shows became regular & along came the urge to be good at cooking. The idea for blog came as suggestion from friends & to preserve all the recipes from generations.
